19-year-old Isis Sio remains in ICU following first-round KO by Jocelyn Camarillo

What began as a routine opening bout quickly turned into a deeply troubling scene Saturday night, as 19-year-old junior flyweight Isis Sio was hospitalized and placed in a medically induced coma following a first-round knockout loss.

Sio remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Loma Linda University Health after suffering the stoppage against unbeaten prospect Jocelyn Camarillo.

According to multiple confirmed reports, doctors placed Sio in a medically induced coma as a precaution following the knockout, with no definitive update yet on the extent of potential neurological injury.

According to David A. Avila at The Sweet Science: “Light flyweight Joceyln Camarillo and Isis Sio erupted in a hurricane of blows but once Camarillo got her bearings she won by brutal knockout in less than a round. Sio was hit with five to six consecutive punches and collapsed from the flurry of blows. She was taken to the hospital at Loma Linda University Hospital.”  Sio’s record going into the fight was 1-2, having suffered a loss by KO to Perla Bazaldua on January 30, 2026. Camarillo’s record improved to 6-1, with 1 KO.

Following the knockout, medical personnel immediately rushed into the ring. Sio was stabilized, placed on a stretcher, and transported out of the arena as a stunned crowd fell silent. Witness accounts described a harrowing scene as Sio was seen convulsing while being taken to the ambulance.

An official familiar with the situation later summarized her condition bluntly: “It’s not good.”

Sio Currently in a Medically Induced Coma

By Sunday, Sio remained in critical condition.

She is currently under intensive monitoring in the ICU, with physicians opting to induce a coma, a standard medical measure used to reduce brain activity and allow recovery following traumatic injury.

As of now, no official timeline for recovery has been released. Promotional representatives and medical personnel have not publicly disclosed whether Sio suffered a brain bleed or other specific trauma, though concern remains high across the boxing community.

Camarillo Reacts with Concern and Prayers

In the immediate aftermath of the bout, before the severity of Sio’s condition became widely known, Camarillo expressed conflicted emotions about the victory.

“I’m happy, but then also have that feeling [of] a little bit of guilt,” Camarillo said.

After learning of Sio’s current medical state, Camarillo posted a prayer online for her.

A Young Fighter’s Path

Sio entered Saturday’s bout with a 1-2 professional record. Having debuted in September of last year, Sio is in the early stages of her career.

At just 19 years old, she represents part of a growing wave of young women entering professional boxing, taking opportunities on developmental cards while building experience in a demanding sport.

The Broader Impact

Moments like this reverberate far beyond a single fight card.

While boxing has long carried inherent risks, incidents involving young fighters often intensify debate around matchmaking, recovery time, and ringside medical protocols.

Waiting for Updates

As the boxing world awaits further medical updates, support has begun to pour in for Sio from fans, fighters, and members of the sport.

No official statement has yet been released by her team regarding her condition beyond her placement in intensive care.

Today, ProBoxTV posted on its social media account: “On behalf of CEO Garry Jonas and the entire ProBox family we are praying for a speedy recovery for Isis Sio. Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time.”

Until more is known, the focus remains on prayers for her recovery and support to her family, team, and loved ones.
