UK Fighters Dominate Weekend with Lauren Price, Caroline DuBois, Terri Harper, Ellie Scotney and Chantelle Cameron

By David A. Avila

The United Kingdom rules supreme again this weekend with back-to-back days of women’s prizefighting in Wales and England.

Welterweight queen Lauren Price (9-0) will defend the IBO, WBA, WBC, and IBF titles against Stephanie Aquino (10-0) in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday April 4. DAZN will stream the Boxxer Promotions card.

The next day, on April 5, Caroline DuBois (12-0) defends the IBO and WBC lightweight titles against WBO champion Terri Harper (16-2-2) who is also a three-division world titlist on Sunday at Olympia in London, England. ESPN and Sky Sports will stream the MVP card.

Those are consecutive days of elite British female boxing.

The winners of these two events will surely emerge as the best female fighters in the United Kingdom.

Price, an 2020 Olympic gold medalist, has quickly established dominance in the professional ranks with wins over Natasha Jonas and Jesica McCaskill. The one fighter the boxing public anxiously anticipates is a showdown with America’s Mikaela Mayer the WBO welterweight titlist.

First, Price seeks to eliminate Puerto Rico’s Aquino from the equation on Saturday.

“I know that this girl is dangerous,” Price said. “She’ll probably try and throw the kitchen sink at me.”

It’s Price’s second time fighting in front of her Welsh countrymen and women.

Easter Sunday

Most Valuable Promotions brings its British side beginning with Caroline DuBois (12-0-1) defending the lightweight titles against fellow Brit Terri Harper (16-2-2) on Sunday April 5, at Olympia in London, England. ESPN and SkySports will show the MVP card.

It’s a unification of the lightweight titles.

Fiery and contentious words have been tossed like verbal grenades from DuBois toward veteran Harper who is not happy about it.

“She just rubs me the wrong way. She gives me that fire in my belly,” said Harper to Sky Sports. “I actually want to go in there and do the work on her.”

DuBois feels that Harper is scared of her.

“I’m not just a fighter I’m an entertainer. I was born for this,” said DuBois. “I’m excited to showcase women’s boing at the highest level.”

Harper said little matters except what happens during their fight.

“I feel like she’s been barking in there a little too much,” said Harper. “She is trying to intimidate me.”

DuBois versus Harper is not the only female fight.

Joining the fray is super bantam champ Ellie Scotney (11-0) defending the IBF, WBC, WBO titles against Mexico’s hard-charging Mayeli Rosquero (13-1-1) in the semi-main event. Scotney is one of the top fighters pound for pound in the world.

IBF super fly champ Irma Garcia (25-5-1) who is a police officer in Mexico, defends against England’s Emma Dolan (8-0). Garcia won her title in Los Angeles and is a southpaw boxer with power.

Another elite fight pits Chantelle Cameron (21-1) versus Michaela Kotaskova (11-0-2) in a match for the vacant WBO super welterweight title. Cameron is the only fighter with a pro win over Katie Taylor.

Four other female bouts are scheduled including the return of former bantam champ Shannon Courtenay.
