Chelsey Anderson in Long Beach, Green in ICU and More News

One of the top American lightweights without a world title Chelsey Anderson returns to action this Friday in a rematch with Mexico’s Alejandra Rojas in Southern California.

Anderson (8-0-1, 3 Kos) returns to the boxing ring against Rojas (5-3-3) who she fought to a unanimous draw three months ago in San Jacinto, Calif. This time they meet at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California. The DMG card will be streamed on various applications.

Raised in Orange County, California, it’s rare to find women from that area in a boxing ring. Anderson is a tall, rangy fighter at 5’9” with pop and natural fighting instincts that I first saw seven years ago in an outdoor arena in Pico Rivera, Calif. She won by first round knockout.

In seven years, Anderson, 35, has only had nine pro fights but the opposition has not been easy in facing the likes of Jessica Juarez, Elvina White and Aida Satybaldinova. This rematch with Rojas is a good example of strong opposition.

One primary reason for lack of fights is the scarcity of lightweights in the West Coast. Most of the fighters range below 118 pounds when it comes to California, Arizona and Nevada. And when it comes to bringing lightweights from other parts of the country, that cost money that is an extra cost to promoters that do not have TV money.

Anderson is ranked among the top lightweights in the country and needs a shot at one of the lightweights holding a title like Caroline DuBois, Elif Nur Turhan or Stephanie Han. All of those fighters are very good fighters.

Is Anderson ready for one of the champions?

Beating Rojas is a good start.

Shadasia Green in ICU

Let’s start with the upset by Lani Daniels defeating Shadasia Green by knockout for the super middleweight titles last Friday in New York City on April 17.

Green was taken to the hospital where she was placed in the Intensive Care Unit for a cerebral hemorrhage, otherwise known as a “brain bleed,” she stated on her social media page.

“I’ll be back to get what’s mine 100% covered,” Green further stated.

No, she won’t.

You don’t simply recover from a cerebral hemorrhage and take punches again. It was taking punches in the head that caused the bleeding in the brain. No doctor would ever allow a fighter back in the prize ring after sustaining this type of injury.

Somebody please enlighten her. You don’t return to boxing professionally. Many fighters die from brain bleeds or are left with debilitating injuries such as paralysis, dementia, blindness or worse – death.

Green, you had a good career but never go back in the boxing ring, even for sparring.

I know what I am talking about. I suffered a cerebral hemorrhage back in 2014 and spent almost a month in the hospital recovering. I considered myself lucky for being able to walk out of the hospital.

You had a fine career Green.  It is time to move on to other goals.
